TONY ELUMELU.

Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu was born on March 22, 1963, in Jos, Nigeria. He is a highly regarded Nigerian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and one of Africa’s most influential business leaders.

Elumelu’s career began in the banking sector. He worked for a prominent Nigerian bank and rose through the ranks to become the CEO of Standard Trust Bank. Under his leadership, the bank experienced significant growth and eventually merged with UBA (United Bank for Africa) in 2005, creating one of Africa’s largest financial institutions.

Tony Elumelu is known for his pioneering philosophy of “Africapitalism,” which emphasizes the role of the private sector in driving Africa’s economic and social development. He believes that African businesses can be forces for positive change on the continent.

In 2010, he retired from UBA and went on to found the Tony Elumelu Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to fostering entrepreneurship and empowering young African entrepreneurs.

The Foundation runs the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, which provides mentorship, funding, and support to startups and small businesses across Africa.
